Head of Data

The Opportunity

We’re seeking an execution-focused Head of Data to lead our data strategy, architecture, and analytics efforts. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who thrives at the intersection of infrastructure, insights, and impact. You'll build a modern data foundation from the ground up, drive a large-scale migration from a legacy system to a greenfield architecture, and unlock high-value outcomes for both internal teams and our external customers.

This role is central to our next phase of growth. Our data environment includes Snowflake and Oracle DB as key data sources. You will oversee the entire data lifecycle—from ingestion to modeling to business intelligence—ensuring data reliability, integrity, and actionable insights.

Key Business Outcomes

  • Empower customers with data products that drive operational efficiency, revenue optimization, and better business intelligence.

  • Enable internal teams (product, marketing, sales, customer success) to make faster, data-informed decisions.

  • Transition our platform to a modern, scalable data infrastructure that aligns with our product and growth roadmap.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and own our end-to-end data strategy, ensuring alignment with business priorities.

  • Lead the migration from a legacy system to a scalable, greenfield data architecture.

  • Build and manage a cross-functional data team (initially small, with expected growth).

  • Oversee the integration and optimization of Snowflake, Oracle DB, and other core systems.

  • Collaborate closely with Engineering and Product to integrate data into the platform and enhance the product experience.

  • Define key performance indicators (KPIs) and reporting frameworks for internal performance tracking and informed executive decision-making.

  • Establish robust data governance, compliance, and security standards to ensure a secure environment.
Select and implement modern tools (e.g., dbt, Fivetran, Looker, Power BI) to enhance the usability and accessibility of data.
Partner with customer-facing teams to develop data tools and dashboards that add value for our clients.

  • Foster a company-wide culture of data-driven thinking.

Qualifications

  • 8–12+ years of experience in data engineering, data analytics, or data leadership roles—ideally within a SaaS, marketplace, or platform business.

  • Proven track record of building and managing modern data platforms, including experience with Snowflake and Oracle DB.

  • Hands-on experience leading data migrations from legacy systems to cloud-native architectures.

  • Strong SQL and data modeling skills; comfortable diving deep into pipelines, schemas, and transformations.
Experience scaling data infrastructure to support product analytics, financial reporting, and customer-facing intelligence tools.

  • Familiarity with BI tools (e.g., Looker, Power BI, Tableau) and modern data stack components (e.g., dbt, Fivetran, Airflow).

  • Ability to influence and communicate across executive, technical, and operational stakeholders.

  • A bias for action—someone who leads through execution, not just strategy.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in a private equity-backed business.
Background in government technology, reservation platforms, or hospitality/rec-tech.

  • Exposure to product-led growth models and embedded analytics within customer platforms.

Why Join

  • Make a measurable impact on how people access and enjoy the outdoors.

  • Lead a foundational initiative with executive visibility and board-level importance.

  • Work in a flexible, remote-first environment with strong leadership support.

  • Be part of a purpose-driven company combining technology, nature, and public service.
